about the author..

probably should have made this my first post but whatever...i was in the 'flood' mode - still kind of am, it's been a hectic day. anyway, 'me':
my name's melissa. guess what my last name is and you win a lollypop. i currently live in los angeles, ca - i'm from bettendorf, ia - and i am preparing to move to chicago, il this september. iowa was a lovely place to grow up, i'm very proud to be from there. i feel i have strong morals and a friendly demeanor because of it. that and i think my parents did a pretty good job. and no- i did not grow up on or near a farm. have def. partied on one before though...(don't worry nicole i won't give you away)
los angeles is fun. it's entertaining, fast paced when i want it to be, and full of new adventures for anyone who moves here. and most of all it's a good place to study people- there's a great assortment of personalities in la. most of the friends i have made out here happen to be from the midwest. i'm not sure if that's a coincidence or if we are drawn towards eachother. anything's possible.
i've decided to move because after two and a half years in l.a. i have gotten sick of my acquired obsession with seeing/reading about celebrities, and with many people's undeserved sense of entitlement. also, going out to the bars is hilarious sometimes- as justin commented: it seems like everybody is sizing everyone else up for the same job. a very accurate description. i'm ready to go back to the midwest. (also it doesn't hurt that i'll be closer to my immediate family and boyfriend!)
hmm, what else about me. oh yes, i went to indiana university for two years and studied voice performance at their renowned music school. i left because i thought i didn't need the education. not one of my best decisions but i only regret it occasionally. life's too short. but i love singing and i'm going to try to get back into performing when i head to chicago. i tried a bit of recording out here but i didn't like it. i like to hear people's response right away, performing in front of an audience is such a rush.
oo one other thing: i'm training for the QC half marathon. i've done only one before, last august, and i did alright. not great, but i finished! i'm trying for a faster time (10 minute/mile pace, still not fast but hey, i'm a newbie!) in september, we'll see how it goes!!
k, that's good. i'll start posting pictures on my next post!! (might actually use capitalization as well, ha)

the great flood of 2006 (#2...)

wow. came into work this morning to a lovely flood. actually the second we've had this year. the construction at trio is horrible. a complete wreck - - can't imagine what would happen if we had a moderate earthquake. well, guess it's not just trio's construction, rather the whole complex. amazing...
anyway, more work for me today then - - get to go buy new rugs, etc for the office. at least we have concrete floors. our neighbor's (whose hot water pipe is to blame this time) are not so lucky. carpet, computers on the floor...no good at all.

moving on - - i have to run 3 or 4 miles tonight. i was supposed to do 5 last night but had a v. bad headache and only did 4...grrrreat for my training. oh well...i'll make it up.
well lunch is here, i may write more later since this is my first post!
xo

Most people will choose unhappiness over uncertainty. I'm definitely not one of those people. --- this blog is simply to keep my friends and family somewhat updated on my little adventures whether I'm going to a new restaurant/bar or moving cross country, then back, then to the opposite coast...
